BIOGRAPHIE

Dr. Bergdahl was appointed in the Department of Exercise Science at Concordia University in July 2009 after having spent a three year post-doc at the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, McGill University. Prior to this he held his first post doctoral fellowship at the August Krogh Institute, University of Copenhagen (Denmark), where he also taught in the Department of Cell Biology. He received a PhD in Medical Physiology from Lund University (Sweden) in 2004 which gave him a strong background in cell and molecular biology, protein chemistry as well as electrophysiology. His research focuses on studies of blood flow, driven by the pumping heart and distributed by the blood vessels, with a particular emphasis on pathophysiological events that lead to a shift in homeostasis. The aim of Dr Bergdahl’s lab is to increase the understanding of these organ systems with respect to cell signaling, contractility and, in smooth muscle cells, differentiation markers. The primary goal is to define changes in the vascular wall that are essential for the normal as well as abnormal function and to translate these findings from fundamental science and experimental animal research into clinical understanding of integrative cardiovascular control in health and disease.
